At Loving Memories Photography & Design LLC, we understand that each senior year is a chapter in the book of life that deserves to be celebrated uniquely. In one particular senior session this past fall for Elaine, Darcey had the pleasure of capturing the essence of this remarkable young woman's final year in high school. This session, held at the Elaine's home, unfolded into a tapestry of memories blending personal style, family history, and the beauty of the autumn season.

A Personal Touch:

Elaine seamlessly blended her own amazing style with Darcey's creative expertise to curate a series of portraits that truly reflected her personality. From her elegant clothing choices to her curled hair and flawless red lipstick, we immediately felt "Lucille Ball vibes" in the best possible way. Classic, stunning, timeless.

Sentimental Settings:

Elaine's home, nestled in the embrace of October's autumnal hues, served as the perfect canvas for this photography session. What made this setting even more special was the incorporation of family furniture – a chair that had previously featured in her older sister's senior session. This inclusion not only added a timeless touch to the images but also created a beautiful visual link between the sisters' milestones. Plus, we quickly realized that Darcey was the same photographer who captured Elaine's older sister's senior portraits - tying these memories all together for a special experience for everyone.

Furry Friends and Family Bonds:

One of the unique aspects of this session was the inclusion of the family's beloved family pets. Elaine's furry companions were integral members of the photoshoot, contributing to the warmth and authenticity of the images and Elaine's genuine smiles. Including the family pets added an extra layer of joy to this entire session.

A Beautiful Backdrop:

Beyond the personalized touches, the backdrop of the family's property was nothing short of spectacular. The picturesque landscape, bathed in the rich colors of fall, provided a stunning natural setting that any photographer could hope for. This not only enhanced the visual appeal of the photographs but an added layer of sentimental value, as they were captured in a place that holds countless family memories.

Today marks a significant milestone for Loving Memories Photography & Design LLC – it's been exactly one full year since I took the reins of this wonderful business! As I reflect on the past 365 days, I am filled with gratitude, excitement, and a profound sense of accomplishment. I can look back on so many moments from the past year and say with so much happiness in my heart -- "Wow - I did that!" and "I got to be a part of that!"

First and foremost, I want to express my deepest thanks to our clients. Your support, trust, and patience have been the cornerstone of this journey. I’m truly grateful for the grace you've extended to me, and to us as a team, as we navigated the challenges of our first year. Your belief in us has given all of us the space to grow, learn, and evolve into the business that exists today.

This past year has been a journey of discovery, learning, and growth - personally and professionally. Owning Loving Memories Photography & Design LLC has been an incredible experience, filled with both triumphs and lessons. I’ve embraced the challenges, learned from the setbacks, and celebrated every success along the way. The knowledge that I have gained has been invaluable. It's shaped not just the business, but my perspective on what it means to capture the moments that matter most. It has also given me the ability to show my three children what it means to provide something great to the community, and they’ve been able to witness their mama learn, laugh, cry, create and persevere through obstacles along the way.

None of this would have been possible without the amazing team we've built. The dedicated photographers and hardworking editing staff have been the backbone of our success. I am so thankful that they chose to be part of this, providing their time, their talent, and their true passion for what’s captured with the lens. I am so immensely proud of all of them, and the passion they bring to their work.

I am also extremely grateful for the support and guidance of old friends and familiar faces this past year. The photography 'scene' here in York has proven itself to be a community of support, learning and mentorship.

Our accomplishments over the past year are a testament to the collective effort of this team and the unwavering support of our clients. We've captured countless beautiful memories, from weddings and family portraits - to milestone events and the first precious days of newborns’ lives. Each photograph tells a story, and we are honored to be entrusted with preserving those special moments for a lifetime.

As we celebrate this one-year anniversary today, I am not just looking back - but eagerly looking forward to the exciting journey that lies ahead. I have big plans, fresh ideas, and a renewed commitment to delivering exceptional photography in a space that welcomes community and creativity. The future is bright, and I can't wait to continue growing, innovating, and being a part of capturing even more memories for our clients.

In conclusion, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey – our clients, our team, and our supporters. Thank you for trusting all of us with your memories, for giving us the opportunity to grow, and for being an essential part of Loving Memories Photography & Design LLC's first year under new ownership. Here's to many more years of capturing the moments that matter most!

With the most heartfelt thanks,

Laurel Nicolson

Getting Your Kids Picture Ready!

November 07, 2023  •  Leave a Comment

It's holiday picture season! Everyone is scheduling pictures for their yearly portrait updates and holiday cards. Preparing your kids for a photo session can be a fun and exciting experience for everyone involved - but it can also be stressful. If you're hoping for a smooth-as-possible photography session and have little ones, this one's for you.

5B5A0545edited5B5A0545editedA precious family photo on one of our many 2023 holiday season sets

Here are some tips as you prepare for your appointment....

Talk to your kids about the photo session: Introduce the idea of the photo session to your child well in advance. Explain to them what will happen during the session and what they can expect. This will help them feel more comfortable and less anxious on the day of the session. You can "practice your picture smile" to help them feel prepared for their moment in the spotlight!

Keep “Hangry” at bay: Fill those little bellies! One of the easiest ways to prepare kids for family photos is to ensure they begin the session with a full stomach. Offer a meal or snack before you hop in the car and bring a snack/water for a mid-session break if necessary. (The "hangry" tip applies for parents, too!)

Dress them in something comfortable: It is tempting to force kids into that “oh-so darling” outfit, but it’s important to remember that they need to be comfortable. Dress them in something that they feel good in and that allows them to move around freely. If getting your kids "dressed up" feels impossible right now, opt for a matching PJ family session on our holiday bed set, or go for a casual look in front of one of our more neutral set options.

Bring a comfort item: If your child has a favorite toy or blanket, bring it along to the session. This can help them feel more comfortable and relaxed. When paired with our "Christmas Eve Night at the Window" set, it adds a little personal touch to a magical photo.

Make sure they’re well-rested: A well-rested child is a happy child. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before the session so that they are well-rested and ready to go. Also... DO NOT SCHEDULE YOUR SESSION DURING WHAT SHOULD BE "NAP TIME". This rarely ends well. If your child tends to fall asleep in the car and you have a longer drive, consider arriving 15-20 minutes early. While you may have to wait in the car for another session to finish up, it will give your child a chance to wake up and get their bearings before they walk into a new/strange place and have lights flashing in their face.

Bring an activity you love to do together: Bring along an activity that you and your child enjoy doing together. This can help keep them entertained and engaged during the session. Need something to keep them distracted for a moment? Let us know! We have coloring books, crayons, toys and blocks available in the studio to help.

While taking pictures with kids (especially younger ones) can be a gamble, it does not have to be a stressful, anxiety-inducing experience. With a few tips, tricks, and a sense of humor - your family's 2023 holiday photography session can be a fun and light-hearted experience for everyone!

After the Storm: Baby Will

October 10, 2023  •  Leave a Comment

October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Over the last several weeks, we've featured our "rainbow babies" from a model call we conducted back in August. A rainbow baby is a baby born after suffering a loss and/or infertility. The Loving Memories team has had the honor of inviting these incredible, resilient parents into the studio and meeting their precious miracles.

Tonya Will is one of the moms who reached out during our model call. She shares her story with us:

"My husband and I met in 2014, married in 2015. My husband has a daughter from a previous marriage, but we decided we wanted to grow our family. Unfortunately, from 2016-2018, I suffered 4 miscarriages. We sought fertility treatments and prayed God would fulfill our desire for a baby. We continued treatments and, in 2018, I became pregnant with our now 4-year-old daughter, Lincoln Harper, and, she has been the sweetest addition to our family! Fast forward to this past winter (2022). We had actually just finished a holiday session with Loving Memories and were preparing for the upcoming holidays. After experiencing a series of symptoms, I first attributed to medical issues that had contributed to my infertility, I decided to reach out to my doctor. To our surprise and disbelief, I discovered I was nearly 8 weeks pregnant-naturally! My husband and I are older and never expected to be walking this road again, but we amazed at the way God has continued to provide and keep this little one safe and healthy."

KNG_4001 copyBoho-Themed Rainbow Baby SessionMom wanted to incorporate a boho, neutral theme for her rainbow baby boy, Silas. Kristen brought in beautiful brown boho rainbows to show what a gift this little guy is!

Tonya shared that Baby Silas has a nursery with neutral tones and boho accents. Kristen brought in these same colors with the wrap, fur choice and basket, along with these beautiful brown boho rainbow props we have in our Newborn Suite.

KNG_4029Boho Baby BoyBaby Silas looks sharp in one of our newborn outfits along with this beautiful wood heart bowl. Kristen put together a variety of styled sets, making sure to keep Mom and Dad's neutral colors/boho theme in mind. We customize all of our styled newborn photography sessions to the parents' wishes, nursery themes, and color preferences. The little boho rainbow props surround the wooden bowl - a subtle but sweet reminder of the joy Silas brings to his parents after suffering losses and fertility struggles.

KNG_4018KNG_4018Bringing in the same natural tones and colors, but with a pop of green, Baby Silas sleeps snuggled up, hands folded - a rainbow with green accents standing out against his soft, white wrap. We are so thankful Baby Silas came to see us in the studio and that his brave and loving parents shared their story of love, loss and the arrival of this little blessing with us.

We love customizing newborn sessions for each unique, amazing family!

After the Storm: Baby Gascot

September 08, 2023  •  Leave a Comment

Baby Gascot was welcomed into our studio by one of our photographers, Brandi Lester, a few weeks ago as part of our rainbow baby model call that we announced in celebration of rainbow babies. A rainbow baby is a baby born to parents who have been struggling with infertility and/or pregnancy/infant loss.

Rainbow Baby GascotFor this rainbow baby session, we wanted to focus on the wonderful simplicity of it all - white background, white wrap, and an adorable felt rainbow heart. Mom of Baby Gascot shared their story with us:

"I’m not the best writer but the short story is: that we struggled with secondary infertility. Was able to get pregnant but kept suffering early miscarriages (5 in total). My husband and I both had multiple tests done and each had minor procedure/surgeries completed. Once healed we were easily able to conceive and deliver our wonderful rainbow baby."

The treasure at the end of the rainbow! For this image, Brandi wanted to represent the "pot of gold at the end of the rainbow" - or in this case, beautiful baby! One end of the cloud is empty - a symbol of the sweet babies they lost - while the other end holds their precious boy.

This simple, yet profound, newborn photography session is a perfect tribute to this rainbow baby and the incredible journey of two parents who refused to give up. Congratulations to the Gascot family!

This rainbow baby is loved beyond measure!
