A little over a year ago I met a group of people that would unknowingly become like family to me! I received an email from a mom looking for information regarding our wedding packages. She was referred to us by her caterer, and at the time, we didn't realize we knew each other. She was looking to book a photographer for her daughter's wedding in just a few weeks, and trying to plan everything very quickly! We started to talk and quickly realized that through my volunteer work at Shadowfax, I had already met Deb, and she hired us on the spot! Last January 26th, I photographed her daughter Kara's wedding! It was a cold day with a beautiful light snow covering on the ground! The entire bridal party and family were just a ton of fun, and made us feel like guests, not vendors!
Over the next few months, I stayed in touch with the family! Sebastian (the groom) was deployed, and Kara was expecting their first daughter! I didn't want Sebastian to miss the baby's delivery so I offered to capture it in pictures if Kara wanted. I didn't push the issue as it's a very private moment, but as the day approached, Kara contacted me to come in and capture her delivery! I was secretly a mess emotionally, as I knew she had to be scared and emotional. When I arrived at the hospital, and the waiting room was over flowing with family, I knew that she was in good hands! The time came to deliver the baby and Sebastian watched on Skype as long as he had battery power and a connection.
Sadly, Sebastian lost connection just as the baby made her entrance into the world, but we captured it the best we could. His sub was pulling out as well, so he didn't get to see his daughter right away! We did a newborn session, using daddy's military apparel, and attempted to include him in many ways during the session.
Sebastian finally arrived home in November to meet his daughter in person for the very first time. We were able to get them in for their first official family portrait and some beautiful shots of the baby. Even taking time to recreate her newborn shot, but this time with daddy's arms instead!
To round out our year, we were able to capture Valentine's pictures of baby Rilynn on Mommy and Daddy's anniversary!! What an amazing year filled with awesome memories. I'm so happy this little family is together and thriving and want to thank Sebastian for his service! Happy 1st Anniversary! These memories are truly why I continue to do what I do and hope to share many more years with this family and more!
